Carers Week 2026

What is Carers Week?

Carers Week is an annual campaign that raises awareness of caring, highlights the challenges unpaid carers face, and celebrates the incredible contribution they make to families, friends and communities across the UK.

The campaign also helps people who may not recognise themselves as carers to identify their caring role and access the support available to them.

This year's theme, "Building Carer Friendly Communities", focused on creating places, services and communities where unpaid carers are recognised, understood and valued, and where they can access the opportunities and support they need to thrive.

Celebrating Carers Across Sheffield

Throughout Carers Week 2026, Sheffield Carers Service was proud to host and support a range of events across the city, bringing carers together to connect, relax, access support and enjoy a well-deserved break from their caring responsibilities.

From canal trips and coffee mornings to afternoon teas, peer support groups, information stands, pop-up events and a special visit to Sheffield DocFest, the week provided opportunities for carers to meet others who understand their experiences and discover the support available to them.

More than 100 carers, professionals and community partners took part in activities throughout the week, helping to create meaningful connections and celebrate the vital role unpaid carers play in our communities.

Thank You

A huge thank you to every carer who attended an event, visited a stall, joined a group or stopped to chat with us during the week. It was wonderful to meet so many of you and hear your stories.

We would also like to thank our volunteers, staff, funders and partner organisations whose support helped make Carers Week such a success. Your dedication ensured that carers across Sheffield felt recognised, appreciated and supported.

Support for Carers Continues All Year Round

While Carers Week may be over, our commitment to supporting unpaid carers continues every day of the year. We believe carers deserve recognition, support and opportunities to connect not just during Carers Week, but every week.

If you're caring for a family member, friend or neighbour, you don't have to do it alone. Whether you're looking for information, practical support, wellbeing activities or simply someone to talk to, we're here to help.
