Carer's Assessment

A carer's assessment is a chance for you to talk about how caring affects your life and what support you might need. It doesn’t matter how much or what kind of care you give – you still have the right to an assessment.

You can have a carers assessment from Sheffield Carers Centre if:

  • You’re 18 or older

  • You care for an adult

  • The person you care for lives in Sheffield

You will speak with one of our trained Carer Advisors who will ask about

How caring affects your daily life

  • Any support you already receive

  • What help you might need (like benefits, breaks, other practical or emotional support)

The Carer Advisor will explain what services might be available to you.

In some cases (for example if we request funding to support you as a carer) your assessment will be shared with Sheffield City Council. We will always discuss this with you. You can ask for your assessment to stay private, but this might limit the help you can get.

Who Can’t Get an Assessment from Sheffield Carers Centre?

  • If the person you care for lives outside Sheffield, please contact their local council.

  • If you care for a child, please request a Parent Carers Assessment via the Children’s Safeguarding Hub by phoning 0114 273 4855. Information is also available from Sheffield Parent Carer Form >>>

  • If you’re a young carer (aged 8–18) information and support is available from Sheffield Young Carers >>>
